Gmail Tests Call Recording

Andrew Banchich spotted a new Gmail feature that lets you record calls. I don't see the call record button in my account, so it's probably an experimental feature that's not yet widely available.

It's similar to the call recording feature from Google Voice. "In order to record your call, simply press 4. You can do it when you first accept a call, or any time after it's started. To stop the recording, press 4 again or hang up. Your recordings are saved online and you can access them just like you do with voicemail." Instead of pressing 4, you click the record button.

  1. I like the UI implementation. I doubt very many people logically associate 4 with recording a call . . .

  2. Very useful addition. Have you noticed that over the past few weeks we've learned about a lot of new features coming to Google's web products? Could it be that Google's trying to make its core web apps like Gmail and Docs as robust as possible before the launch of Chrome OS?

  3. It´s a great feature. I believe that Google wants to beat the facebook-skype integration. Gmail is: Buzz+Chat+E-mail+Phone+...+Log of chat and calls. and i´m sure that this feauture will be integrated in Android and other smartphones that uses Google search native app, such as iPhone and Blackberry. to Search in the Log Call using the same technology implemented in Youtube´s video transcription...

  5. European users can use the greasemonkey script to add the button manually. You'll have to edit a few lines for this workaround though.

  6. Combine call recording with voice recognition and you get a powerful combo.

How many times you wanted to record some conversation with customer service or sales representative to keep them accountable?

  8. I'm assuming this is only incomming calls you can do this on, just like the '4' key for regular Google voice, can anyone confirm?

  12. I'd like to ask one question what will be the situation if I replace another alarm clock app with inbuilt system alarm clock app, which will it work or I'll have to find the another way as using the same alarm clock app is very boring thing.
