Google Calendar Snooze

Google Calendar implemented a basic snooze feature for pop-up notifications. You can click on "remind me again in 5 minutes" in Google Calendar's web interface.

"When alerted to an event via a pop-up notification and dismissing it, the calendar interface will show you an option to remind you again shortly. Click on that link if you want to be reminded of the event again," explains Google.

Another implementation is available in Google Talk Labs Edition, a Windows client for Google Talk that shows Google Calendar notifications.

  1. Interesting.

Google talk seems to be the slowest moving animal amongst all google products. Haven't heard to anything since video chat... and that was a looong time ago... Any idea what's going on on that front?

  2. Varun,

I have said the same thing for a year ... whoever is managing Google Talk needs to start doing some innovating. I have a list of ideas and things they should implement.

  3. Actually, on another note, when Google Chrome adds desktop notifications to its extension API, the Google Calendar pop-ups will be quite useful.

  4. I have a list of things also. One would be integration with Google Voice. I love GTalk and would love to see some faster development or even beta (which I am not impressed by the Google Labs Edition).

  5. Google Talk Labs Edition should be closed. They should concentrate on a new version in Gmail Labs, which integrates more of the features from other versions and adds the ability to pop out your buddy list and make it an entirely separate app with Chrome or Mozilla Prism. Simplification of versions on the web would be key.

  6. Regarding Google Talk: I spoke with a Google developer at their Seattle meetup a few months ago. I asked (paraphrasing), "Is the Google Talk client for Windows still being developed, and if so when will it be released?"

He said, "I can't comment on specific features or release dates, but we *are* still working on it, and I'm pretty sure you're all really going to like what's in it when we release."

Also this quote from http://googlesystem.blogspot.com/2008/03/google-talk-not-dead-after-all.html may be pertinent:

Last year, a presentation for Google Apps inadvertently included a screenshot of Google Talk enhanced with the ability to make phone calls. In the comments, someone informed us that "internally at Google, this feature is already active since long".

I am afraid, it's not convincing. I have heard of several of the features active within Google for different products, e.g. Android's Google talk APIs (well, they should be, since the guys would be testing internally ;) ), If Google Talk team is falling short of ideas, I hope it gets ideas from the Community (and kmohr25 ;)) on their http://productideas.appspot.com/ site.

  9. The five minute snooze feature is really 1995. We need a way to choose how long to snooze a reminder, ideally with a totally flexible input from the user, but at least a good variety of times - 30 min, 60 min, 2 hours, four hours, 8 hours, 24 hours. Pretty basic feature missing from an otherwise great calendar. And, by the way, not just for Windows. Make it work with OS X, please.
