Why Plagiarism Makes You Feel Sad

So you have to write something interesting, something that will make a nice impression to your audience (readers of your blog, your class mates, the staff at the meeting). You know it must be really great, but you don't have any inspiration. You don't have too much time to write the text, so there's a lot of pressure. In fact, what great things can you write when all the great things have already been written? All the ideas that cross your mind are rejected as "not interesting" or "already done". You look around and nothing inspires you. Time goes by and you still haven't written anything.

So you go to Google, type the subject of your article and get a text written by someone else. It's so easy, you don't even have to read it, just put your name next to it in a selfish attempt to gain some appreciation.

Maybe people will never discover your theft, or maybe they just wouldn't care. But how do you feel about that? Breathe deeply and say: do you feel content? Did you do anything to use your knowledge to make the world better? Did you discover anything? You're lazy, selfish and dishonest. But are you also untalented? Don't be a void echo, build an identity and earn your signature!

  1. Yeah, kind of ironic then that several times a week I find your posts exact duplicates of other Google blogs.

  2. Exact duplicates? I think you're kidding. I don't do that. I post less news about Google than most other Google blogs, I try to find the important news and write my opinion if I have one.

Could you give me an example of a duplicate post? I mean, maybe the subject it's the same. It's like saying news papers have the same news, that means they copy each other.

  3. Alex - It happens, gone were the days, when there were only sites, publications & media. So the contents to some extent were original.

But in today's world, there is mushrooming of these. And even, before a news comes out of the Source, it spreads like a jungle fire in NS.

What matters is? If you have take something from some where, atleast give credit to the Source.

  4. Yes, dg is right.
First: I did never find any duplicated contend here and i check nearly all search related blogs daily.
( ... and yours is one of my favorite ones :-))
But anyway there is no reason, to care about anonymous comments.
Second: Telling news in a viral way (one blog tells about the content of the other one) while giving credit to the source is an important element of the power of blogging. It GOOD to spread the word, when you find good content anywhere ... but trolls like weblogs also ;-) ...
